1 injured after car strikes bear in Grays Harbor County

A teenage passenger was injured when a car struck a black bear on Highway 12 in Grays Harbor County on Saturday evening, according to the Washington State Patrol.

A Ford Focus was westbound on Highway 12 about two miles east of Oakville around 9 p.m. when it hit a bear that was standing in the middle of the highway. The injured 16-year-old boy was wearing a seat belt, but it failed to restrain him, the State Patrol said. He was airlifted to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver.

The driver was not injured, the State Patrol said. The extent of the bear’s injuries wasn’t known.
