Aurora, Interbay and Sodo lane closures this week

Traffic slowdowns are coming to Aurora Avenue North, to West Emerson Street, and to South Spokane Street this week, as workers fix damaged road decks, if the weather cooperates.

  • On southbound Aurora, only one lane will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, while crews patch potholes between North 40th Street and North 41st Street. The job was going to happen in August, during a bridge removal project near Mercer Street, but city officials reconsidered and chose not to impose two big shutdowns in the same week.
  • On the Spokane Street Viaduct, one eastbound lane will close Wednesday from First Avenue South to Fourth Avenue South, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Pavement is starting to crumble, where new concrete was laid over an old road deck about four years ago, said city spokeswoman Marybeth Turner.
  • The West Emerson Street overpass, just south of the Ballard Bridge, will close to all traffic Thursday morning, for 12 weeks.  And this weekend, traffic will be closed at night along busy 15th Avenue West, to allow crews to replace a girder that’s been damaged by tall truck loads, hitting the Emerson overpass. The closures are Friday and Saturday night from 8 p.m. until 9 a.m., then Sunday night from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. More information is here.
