Burglar climbs through second-floor window, asks for a beer

From The Chronicle (Centralia, Wash.):

A man who crawled through a second-floor window of a Lewis County home and asked for a beer was arrested on suspicion of burglary this week.

The 38-year-old, from Carter Lake, Iowa, told deputies he was on his way to Portland Wednesday evening when he saw a ladder and a rope leading up to the second-story window of a house near Chehalis and decided to climb up. He told deputies it “looked inviting, like a hippie trail,” authorities said.

Once at the top, the man saw the homeowner inside, asked for a beer and if he could go through the house instead of climbing back down the ladder. The homeowner didn’t give permission, but the man came through the window anyway. The owner got him out of the house and called 911.

Deputies later discovered him walking down the road. He was arrested and booked in the Lewis County Jail for suspicion of burglary.

The homeowner told deputies the ladder and rope were there because he had been cleaning his rain gutters.
