Child struck by driver in Rainier Valley remains in ICU

A 7-year-old girl struck by a car on Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Genesee Street on Tuesday night remains in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center.

Seattle police say they are searching for a red or maroon Chevy Tahoe SUV that was seen speeding away after striking the child around 6:30 p.m. Police said they initially believed the girl was struck by two cars, but  they were able to later determine it was only one vehicle.

During a police command staff meeting on Tuesday,  South Precinct Capt. David Proudfoot said that officers were checking footage recorded by nearby SoundTransit light rail cameras in an effort to find the driver.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to call traffic collision investigators at 206-684-8923.
