Dual crashes snarl traffic in South Seattle

Update at 10:48 a.m.: Seattle police  have reopened all lanes of East Marginal Way South following the Wednesday morning collisions.

Original post: Commuting through Sodo this morning? Avoid East Marginal Way South after two separate serious-injury crashes in the northbound lanes have snarled traffic.

Seattle police spokesman Patrick Michaud said the first crash involved an SUV and motorcycle at South Fidalgo Street, details about the crash have not been released. At least one person suffered serious injuries in the 7 a.m. crash, Michaud said.

Five minutes later, a few blocks away in the 2200 block of East Marginal Way South, police were called to another crash involving a bicyclist.

Michaud said a bicyclist was struck by a hit and run driver and suffered serious injuries; he was taken to Harborview Medical Center. Police are searching for the motorist who struck the man.

Police report that a section of East Marginal Way South is closed while they investigate.
