A Grandview, Yakima County, man will spend 17 years behind bars for fatally stabbing a friend, then running over his body and stashing it in the trunk of a car.
Robert B. McCorkindale was sentenced Tuesday in Benton County Superior Court for the June 2013 murder of Preston Yahne.
The prison term, ordered by Judge Bruce Spanner, was recommended by prosecutors and defense attorneys as the result of plea negotiations.
McCorkindale, 25, pleaded guilty in September to a reduced charge of second-degree murder.
He initially was charged with first-degree murder, but it was reduced in part because McCorkindale’s statements were suppressed after a judge found Yakima County sheriff’s detectives violated his right to a lawyer after arrest.
Yahne, 22, was found days later in the trunk of his burned car in a Sunnyside gravel pit.
