Body found near White Center tied to earlier investigation

King County sheriff’s detectives and the medical examiner’s office are investigating a suspected homicide in the 10700 block of Sixth Avenue South. (King County sheriff’s photo)

Update at 2:15 p.m.: Sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. DB Gates said,  “We can say the body we discovered today is related to that earlier investigation. It was information we received while continuing to work the Shelly/Marshmallow case that led us to the location here.

“The body found today is female, but we still don’t even know who Shelly/Marshmallow is. Thus we have no missing person reported that we can try to match it to.

“Detectives are still out at the scene processing the area for evidence, and other detectives continue to chase down leads and interview people who may have knowledge of how this victim ended up here and who she may be.”

The Shelly/Marshmallow case has been the subject of a recent homcide investigation in Burien.

Detectives say they have credible information that the woman was killed at an abandoned house in 12600 block of 14th Ave South and buried on the property. Detectives have searched the property but have not found a body.

The victim is described as white or possibly part Native American, according to a sheriff’s office news release. She was believed to be in her 30s, of average build with dark brown hair that may have been dyed blond.

The sheriff’s office says her name may be “Shelly” and she may also go by “Marshmallow.”

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. DB Gates said detectives in the area were investigating a missing-persons case when they found a body in heavy brush behind a row of four-plex homes in the 10700 block of Sixth Avenue South.

Gates did not release details of the missing-persons case or details about the body that was discovered.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office is also on the scene, she said.

It’s unclear if the body is that of a woman who has been the subject of a recent homcide investigation in Burien.
