Today’s partial solar eclipse is about to wrap up, and Seattle skies were just clear enough to see it for a time, before the rain set in again.

In Seattle, the eclipse began at 1:35 p.m., peaked at 3 p.m. and ends by 4:20 p.m.

If  a break in the clouds should appear again in the remaining minutes of the solar show, be sure to take extreme care — don’t look at the sun directly, and don’t use sunglasses, etc. A solar eclipse can only be viewed directly though special filtered glass such as a welder’s mask. Otherwise, you’re best to use two pieces of cardboard, with a pinhole through one to project an image of the eclipse onto the other.  Here’s a NASA site where you can learn more about how to view the eclipse safely.
