Three people were found dead in what police believe was a murder-suicide in a Rainier Beach home Monday night, police said.
Preliminary reports suggest a man in his 60s fatally shot his adult daughter and his teenage granddaughter before shooting himself in a house in the 6300 block of South Fountain Street, according to the Seattle Police Department.
A 10-year-old boy who had been in the house at the time called 911 around 8:20 p.m. and
reported shots being fired. The boy was able to escape, said Assistant Chief Nick Metz.
The boy was shaken up but not injured and was with other family members, Metz said.
Seattle Mayor Ed Murray was at the scene and said he was there because the deaths are a “family tragedy.” He said he wanted to reassure residents about their safety.
“The neighborhood itself is safe,” Murray said.
