UPDATE, 6:30 a.m. | The suspected shoplifter allegedly hit the employee with a bottle before the employee stabbed the suspected shoplifter, according to a Bellevue police tweet.
ORIGINAL POST | Police say a grocery store employee stabbed a shoplifting suspect in a confrontation Wednesday night in Bellevue.
Police say the employee confronted the 37-year-old suspect inside a downtown Safeway store and chased him to a parking lot where they fought.
The suspect was stabbed multiple times. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life threatening injuries.
The employee returned to the store and was questioned by investigators, before being released.
KIRO reports the suspect was believed to be shoplifting liquor.
