UPDATE: 2:05 p.m.: Washington State Department of Transportation engineers have inspected the bridge and found no structural damage, and it’s being reopened to traffic.
ORIGINAL POST: State Highway 529 is closed at the Snohomish River in Everett after a semi-truck carrying a large load struck several bridge support beams, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Northbound traffic is being diverted to Marine View Drive from Broadway in Everett. The State Patrol recommends avoiding the area because of backups.
The State Patrol says the semi was carrying a load from Clearview to Anacortes when it struck the bridge. Inspectors with the state Department of Transportation are on scene.
A section of the Skagit River Bridge fell into the water in May 2013 after a truck carrying a tall load hit the bridge in Mount Vernon. Two other vehicles fell into the Skagit River, and three people were rescued with minor injuries.
