Bellevue police are crediting the “Washington’s Most Wanted” TV show with helping reunite a woman with her stolen wedding ring.
The diamond-studded ring was inside the victim’s purse, which was stolen Sept. 19 as she was trying on shoes at the Nordstrom Rack store in Factoria, police said. She had placed her ring in the purse while she was at the gym earlier in the day, according to police.
Police obtained surveillance video and credit card records, which led them to identify the suspected thief as a Chinese national whose whereabouts were unknown.
Q-13’s “Washington’s Most Wanted” aired a segment on the case on Sept. 26. The victim, Sroy Lee McCarthy, told the show the ring was valued at $20,000.
“It is like somebody ripped a piece of my heart out,” McCarthy said on the show, which aired surveillance photos and identified the suspected thief by name.
On Tuesday, the alleged thief came to the Bellevue Police Department accompanied by a family member who had seen the show and convinced her to surrender and return the stolen items. The suspect was arrested for investigation of theft, police said.
The victim was reunited with her stolen wedding ring a short time later.
