Two men were captured hiding in a Seattle cemetery late Friday after police said they jumped from a moving, stolen SUV.
Patrol officers were on the lookout for the stolen SUV, believed to be connected with a number of recent incidents in North Seattle, police said.
The officers spotted the vehicle at Aurora Avenue North and North Northgate Way around 11 p.m., with two men inside. Apparently realizing they had been spotted, the two drove a short distance before jumping out of the moving SUV and running away, police said.
After stopping the runaway SUV, officers chased the two, who ran into the cemetery. Additional officers surrounded the cemetery, and a helicopter searched from the air.
The helicopter located the men, who were booked into the King County Jail: the 18-year-old driver on investigation of auto theft and eluding, and the 19-year-old passenger was booked on obstruction and a warrant, police said.
During a sweep of the cemetery, police dogs found a stolen gun among the headstones.
