Ferry traffic out of Anacortes is delayed after the Coast Guard was called to help a sailboat in distress.
Coast Guard Petty Officer Katelyn Shearer said they were called to help a boater who was struggling to sail his vessel in the high winds and nasty weather off of Anacortes. The 16-foot vessel was “beset by weather,” she said.
“They were having trouble getting through,” she said.
A Coast Guard buoy-tender picked up the sailor and is towing his sailboat to shore, Shearer said.
A spokeswoman for the Washington State Ferries said ferry traffic is delayed because of the distressed vessel. According to the state ferry agency’s Twitter feed, the incident impacted the 10:35 a.m. sailing from Anacortes to Lopez, Shaw and Orcas islands.
