Kayaker drowns on Stillaguamish River
A 24-year-old kayaker drowned Sunday afternoon on the Stillaguamish River.
The man, originally from Alaska, was with two friends about 2:30 p.m. when his kayak overturned in the river near the 28300 Block of the Mountain Loop Highway in the Granite Falls area, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. His body was found several minutes later and he was brought to shore, but resuscitation efforts were not successful, the sheriff’s office said.
His name was not immediately released.
Due to the location of the victim along the weather and river conditions, search and rescue personnel said they would wait until daylight Monday to recover the body.
