Kids safe after Portland woman found dead

The Associated Press

PORTLAND — Police say a man killed himself after taking his daughters from the Portland home where his ex-wife was found dead Monday.

Sgt. Pete Simpson says detectives believe the man killed his ex-wife.

The investigation began at 7:20 a.m., when a neighbor reported hearing gunshots at a home in southwest Portland. The neighbor also saw two small children leave with someone.

Inside the home, police discovered the body of 46-year-old Nicolette Naomi Elias.

Officers then went to a northeast Portland home where the girls’ father lived.

Police said the father — 47-year-old Ian Martin Elias — walked out the back door and shot himself.

Officers then ran into the home and found the girls safe.
