Man beaten and targeted with anti-gay slurs on Capitol Hill

A man was beaten and was the target of anti-gay slurs on Capitol Hill early Monday morning, according to Seattle police.

Police say that the victim was attacked by three or four men while he was smoking a cigarette near Belmont Avenue and East Pike Street about 1:30 a.m.. The victim, police said, could not describe his attackers.

The victim suffered injuries to his face and head and was taken to Harborview Medical Center.

“Right now we’re looking for the suspects in this case. This is the kind of behavior Seattle doesn’t stand for,” said Seattle police spokesman Patrick Michaud.

Officers searched the area for the suspects, but weren’t able to find them.

The department’s Bias Crimes unit, which focuses on hate crimes, will review the case. Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call 911.
