Mother charged in toddler’s death in fire near Olympia

OLYMPIA — The woman accused of leaving her 18-month-old son alone in a house where he died in a fire was charged Tuesday with second-degree manslaughter.

The Olympian reports 22-year-old Ashley A. Conroy was released without bail pending her arraignment Nov. 18 in Thurston County Superior Court.

Prosecutors said the smoke-inhalation death of William Bradsnyder early Monday at the home northwest of Olympia was tragic but preventable. He was left in a room where an electric grill was being used for heat. His body was found with a leg tangled in the cord as if he had crawled into it, starting the fire.

Conroy is represented by attorney Larry Jefferson with the county Office of Assigned Council who has been asked to comment on her defense.
