ABERDEEN — Police in Aberdeen say a 7-year-old boy fell out of a moving school bus. The child was not believed to be seriously hurt.
KBKW reports that police Capt. John Green said police responded Friday morning. The Aberdeen School District bus driver told an officer he was traveling about 20 to 25 mph when the passenger-side emergency door opened, sounding an alarm.
The driver said he looked in his mirror and saw what he thought was a backpack, then realized it was a student “rolling” beside the bus. The driver says he stopped immediately and went to aid the boy.
Fire Department medics treated the child and he was taken to a hospital.
Officials say the driver was being drug-tested by the school district as a matter of procedure. The bus had been headed to Stevens School.
The Washington State Patrol was called to inspect the bus. Green said police are investigating.
