MOUNT VERNON — A 24-year-old man was sentenced to prison Thursday for stealing bicycles from an Australian couple when they stopped in Mount Vernon last summer on a cross-continent trek.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports Danial Frank Osburn of Mount Vernon pleaded guilty to theft and an unrelated heroin charge. He was sentenced in Skagit County Superior Court to more than three years for the theft and five for the drug count, with both sentences to be served at the same time.
Billy Barnetson and Anna Suthers from Thirroul, Australia, had their bikes and camping equipment stolen in August when they stopped at a restaurant. They bought new bikes and continued on an Alaska-to-South America bike trip.
Police arrested suspects in October and recovered most of the stolen property.
