LEAVENWORTH — Snow and wind frightened three young men who were hiking in the Enchantments into texting a family member that they needed help on Sunday morning.
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office sent four mountain rescue volunteers into the high lakes and escorted the men out, said Sgt. Kent Sisson. The men were 19, 19 and 20, and were students at the University of Washington.
“This is a good reminder that the middle of November is not a good time to be going into the Enchantments,” Sisson said.
The 7,000 foot area is ripe for dangerous weather conditions.
The men texted for help about 4 a.m. on Sunday from Isolation Lake but had made their way down Aasgard Pass to Colchuck Lake by the time rescuers got to them, Sisson said.
