PORT ANGELES  — A 60-year-old Port Angeles man has been missing in Olympic National Park since he went on a day hike on Monday.

Park officials told The Peninsula Daily News a backpack belonging to the hiker was found in the Olympic Hot Springs Trail area, but there were no other signs of him.

Park spokeswoman Barb Maynes says friends of Jim Griffin reported him overdue when he did not arrive at a dinner party on Christmas Eve. His car was found at the Olympic Hot Springs trail head.

Teams of searchers looked for Griffin over the holiday and planned to continue Friday.
