Man threatens customers, torches sign at Roosevelt shop

Seattle police say a man set fire to a sandwich board at a Roosevelt coffee shop and threatened to burn the business down.

Witnesses told police the man put some cloth on top of the sign outside the shop in the 6400 block of 12th Avenue Northeast around 1:30 p.m. Monday and lit it with a lighter. He kept flicking the lighter and threatened to burn the building down, according to police.

The man threw a sidewalk sign in front of a car and chased two women at the store, threatening to injure them, police said.

The man was arrested and booked into the King County Jail for investigation of property damage and harassment, police said.

Police don’t give a motive for the man’s bizarre behavior.
