The Associated Press

The Seattle Fire Department says no one was injured in a midday freight-train derailment in South Seattle.

The Seattle Department of Transportation says train cars completely blocked East Marginal Way, a major north-south artery through the city, for at least half an hour on Friday.

The cause and extent of the derailment was not immediately clear as police directed cars around the site.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe runs freight traffic through the region. Phone calls to the railway asking for more details about the derailment were not immediately returned.
