UPDATE, 9:45 a.m. | Police say the 2014 Lexus was speeding erratically when it left the road at a curve, plunged over an embankment and crashed into trees.
ORIGINAL POST | One person was killed when a car traveled off South Puget Drive and down an embankment in Renton early Wednesday, Renton police reported.
Police said the accident was reported about 5:40 a.m. in the 2000 block of South Puget Drive, near Benson Road South.
Officers found a silver 2014 Lexus sedan, which had left the roadway and traveled down an embankment on the south side of the road.
The car’s driver was the only occupant. He was pronounced dead at the scene and has not yet been identified.
Police said no other vehicles appear to have been involved. Marks on the pavement indicate that the eastbound car left the roadway, crossed the sidewalk, continued down an embankment before shearing off a tree, and came to rest on its side against another tree.
Puget Drive at Benson Red is closed, and emergency crews are on the scene.
