UPDATE at 10:59 a.m.: Sheriff’s Sgt. DB Gates says the burglar or burglars were targeting the store’s firearms.
The first deputies on the scene noticed the cases holding rifles and ammo had been disturbed. They also heard noises in the ceiling where they believe a suspect was hiding.
Deputies are taking extra care because of the access to guns inside.
Sgt. DB Gates tells KOMO Radio they had voice contact with a man who refused to come out. He and perhaps others may be hiding in the ceiling.
Firefighters also responded to the scene Tuesday morning, and deputies used their ladder to crawl onto the roof of the building.
The incident has clogged traffic in the area which is near the Burien transit center and park-and-ride.
