A man who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for killing a Renton man at a Bellevue Square restaurant on Christmas Eve 2012 was sentenced Friday to 18-1/2 years in prison.
Ja’Mari Alexander-Alan Jones, 21, pleaded guilty in December for fatally shooting DeShawn Milliken, 30, at Munchbar, a restaurant/bar that operated in Bellevue Square. He faced up to 23 years in prison, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors recommended the 18-1/2 year sentence.
Milliken was killed during an altercation on Dec. 24, 2012, at the restaurant, which closed after the homicide. The Renton man was a former Garfield High School homecoming king, football star and honor student.
Jones was one of three teens who pleaded guilty in 2009 to manslaughter in the death of Ed “Tuba Man” McMichael, 53, a street musician who was beaten during a 2008 robbery near Seattle Center. He later died from his injuries.
Jones, who was 16 when the Tuba Man died, served time in Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration detention for the death, along with Billy Chambers and Kenneth Kelly.
