About eight people have been displaced after a blaze burned through a second-story unit of a Kirkland apartment building.
Kirkland Fire Department Battalion Chief Kenneth Henderson said Kirkland and Bothell firefighters responded to a call at the 11600 block of 91st Avenue Northeast at 11:15 a.m. Saturday. They encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the second-story unit’s windows and balcony.
Henderson said the fire was contained to one of six units in the three-story building, but some of the surrounding units did have minor smoke damage.
He estimated eight people are displaced, including the occupant of the burned unit, who was not home at the time of the fire. No one was injured, he said.
Firefighters fought the blaze for about 30 minutes. They were still investigating the cause.
Henderson said the residents of the surrounding units should be able to return to their homes Saturday evening.
