A man accused of slitting a video game clerk’s throat during a robbery in Renton was charged Friday with first-degree assault and first-degree robbery.
In charging documents filed in King County Superior Court, prosecutors allege that Darren Gayles, 44, entered the GameStop shortly before 11 a.m Wednesday and held a knife to the lone clerk’s throat.
Prosecutors say Gayles forced the 23-year-old woman to open the cash drawer and then cut her throat. He stole cash from the cash drawer and fled, court documents say.
He was arrested later that day and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 29 at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent.
The victim, Kiersten Shideler, was seriously injured, but is improving and has been moved from the Intensive Care Unit at Harborview Medical Center, her family said.
