What’s better than a photo of three lion cubs? Helping name them!
The Woodland Park Zoo is hosting a contest to narrow the name choices for the three male cubs of mom Adia and dad Xerxes.
The name choices are derived from languages that reflect parts of the South African lion’s native range, according to the zoo. Our favorites include Karabo (“Answer”), Pule (“Rainy/In the rain”) and Tandie (“Fire”).
The name with the most votes will automatically be used, but the zoo will let the parents choose the final two from the finalists. How? On Jan. 29, the zoo will present the parents with choices associated with each name, and the two they touch first will be used, the zoo says on their website.
The 2½ month-old cubs were born Oct. 24 and weighed three pounds at birth. Brief outdoor introduction will continue through February or March. The outdoor tours will be random and not announced in advance, zoo officials said.
