Forecast: Morning showers, but warm; snow in the mountains

It’s almost  balmy out there for a January Seattle day, with an expected high in the low 50s, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Expect showers in the morning, shifting into a mostly cloudy day with lows near 38 Friday night.

We should be getting plenty of rain on Saturday and into Sunday morning, but the weather service expects the wet stuff to taper off before the Seahawks play Green Bay in the NFC Championship game at 12:05 p.m. on Sunday at CenturyLink.

Meteorologist Art Gaebel at the weather service says heavier rain Saturday will have moved on through, followed by the showers. “Typical Seattle weather,” he says.

If you’re headed east of the Cascades, be sure to check with the Department of Transportation for pass conditions or call 511. Snoqualmie and Stevens passes both report compact snow and ice on the roadways, and traction tires are advised.
