Human remains found in wooded area near Mill Creek

A man walking in the woods in Mill Creek Sunday evening found the remains of a body in a small wooden structure near the Bothell-Everett Highway, according to a Mill Creek Police Department news release.

Although extremely decomposed, the remains appear to be human. Police say the age, gender and circumstances of death are unknown at this time.

The scene was secured Sunday night and the investigation will continue Monday morning, police say.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will try to determine the identity of the body.

The area where the body was found is a combination of marshland and forest near North Creek Park. Police officers have encountered homeless camps in the area in the past, according to the release.
