Man steals pickup with child inside; child, truck found unharmed

A man stole a pickup with a 2-year-old child inside near Covington Friday evening, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

The 2-year-old was found asleep inside the truck and unharmed about 15 minutes later, the sheriff’s office said. The suspect stole the truck and flatbed trailer around 5:20 p.m. from the 28000 block of 177th Avenue Southeast and it was located about three miles away in the 3200 block of Thomas Road Southeast.

Officials believe the suspect didn’t realize there was a child in the truck when he took the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office. The suspect fled on foot to a nearby business and convinced a customer to give him a ride out of the area.

Deputies have released a photo of the suspect, who has tattoos on at least one of his upper arms . Anyone who may recognize him is asked to call the King County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center at 206-296-3311.
