Seattle Fire Dept.: Molotov cocktail thrown at Safeway

Someone threw a Molotov cocktail at a Greenwood grocery store Monday evening, according to the Seattle Fire Department.

A witness across the street saw the person throwing the incendiary device at the Safeway store in the 8700 block of Greenwood Avenue North shortly after 7 p.m., Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore said. The Molotov cocktail didn’t ignite on the wall, but rolled onto a bush and set the bush on fire.

The witness ran across the street with a fire extinguisher and put out the fire, Moore said. Firefighters responded to the scene and collected evidence while Seattle police interviewed the witness. The incident is under investigation by the Seattle Police Department arson/bomb squad.
