Washington Beef, LLC, a Toppenish, Wash., firm is voluntarily recalling 1,620 pounds of boneless beef-trim products from 2012 that may have been contaminated with potentially deadly E. coli O157:H7 bacteria.
The beef products were shipped in 60-pound bulk packs produced Nov. 28, 2012, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service reported Wednesday. They were not sold in stores, rather they were sent to a single grinding facility for use in hotels, restaurants and institutions in Oregon and Washington.
FSIS and the company have received no reports illness associated with consumption of this product.
The problem was discovered during an internal audit by the company.
E. coli O157:H7 bacteria can cause life-threatening illness, including a type of kidney failure most common in children younger than 5 and older adults.
The product subject to recall bears the establishment number EST. 235 inside the USDA mark of inspection.
