The Associated Press

A serial bank robber called the “Alabama Band Robber” because of the hat he wore during the crimes has pleaded guilty to robbing five banks during the month of July.

Michael Ryan Hardesty of Woodinville also pleaded guilty to possessing a stolen firearm.

Hardesty robbed two banks in Lynnwood, two in Bellingham and one in North Seattle. His take-away was almost $35,000.

He was arrested in August after the FBI released surveillance photos showing Hardesty with his signature hat that had the name of the country rock, bluegrass band Alabama on the band above the brim. A tipster saw the photos and alerted officials.

He’s scheduled to be sentenced on April 23. Both sides plan to recommend a sentence of nine to 13 years, but it will be up to the judge.

The bank robberies he is responsible for:

July 7: Bank of America, Martha Lake Branch, 164th Street Southwest, in Lynnwood;
July 11: Whidbey Island Bank, Ballinger Way Northeast, in Shoreline;
July 18: Washington Federal, Meridian Street in Bellingham;
July 25: Washington Federal in Bellingham;
July 30: Wells Fargo on 164th Street Southwest in Lynnwood.
