A British Columbia man was arrested at a Skagit County park on Tuesday after he traveled to the U.S. to have sex with someone he believed was a 12-year-old girl, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Kuldip “Kelly” Singh Mahal, 47, responded to a Craigslist posting by an undercover agent with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations who was posing as a 12-year-old girl, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. Mahal sent sexually explicit photos of himself and repeatedly requested the “girl” send sexually explicit photos of herself back to him, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Mahal, a facilities manager for a Vancouver, B.C. tech firm and youth soccer coach, allegedly crossed the border into the U.S. at Blaine Tuesday and drove to a Burlington park, where he had agreed to meet the girl, the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Mahal is facing a charge of enticement of a minor, which is punishable by a mandatory minimum prison term of 10 years to life. He made his initial appearance Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Seattle and faces another hearing on Monday.
