A small plane has crashed on the beach of Hood Canal, according to tweets from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

The pilot appears to only have minor injuries after a hard landing and there were no passengers, the sheriff’s department says.

The engine cut out and the pilot purposely tried to land on the beach, according to tweets. There were reports of an engine “bang” before the crash, which occurred near the 5000 block of Northeast North Shore Road.
