Amtrak alters schedule for Empire Builder trains

Mudslide shuts down Amtrak and Sounder service between Everett and Seattle

A mudslide onto railroad tracks between Seattle and Everett this afternoon has shut down Amtrak and Sounder service for 48 hours, according to BNSF Railway spokesman Gus Melonas. The Associated Press Crews with a crane and other heavy equipment reopened the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks near Auburn Monday evening, after a freight train derailed earlier in the day.
