A man who went “berserk” inside a Seattle convenience store Saturday collapsed and died after destroying merchandise and assaulting the store owner, according to a news release from the Seattle Police Department.
The chain of events took place just before noon in a store in the 8900 block of 14th Avenue South, in the South Park neighborhood. The man, 36, attacked the store owner, who responded with a small burst of pepper spray. But the man collapsed before the spray even landed, according to the store’s security video, and efforts to revive him failed.
The man’s death may have been drug-induced or related to a mental-health issue, according to police. The medical examiner’s office will determine the cause.
