Bail was set at $1 million for a 43-year-old man suspected of causing the death of a passenger Saturday night in West Seattle.
Prosecutors said the man, who waived his appearance at his bail hearing this afternoon at the King County Jail, was driving on a suspended license for unpaid tickets, including one for a violation of an Ignition Interlock Restriction, according to the affidavit of probable cause. In addition, he had a DUI charge out of Island County that had been reduced to negligent driving, prosecutors wrote in the affidavit.
He is being held on investigation of vehicular homicide pending the filing of charges, according to prosecutors.
According to Seattle police, the man was driving a Chevrolet pickup near the intersection of Delridge Way Southwest and Southwest Kenyon Street shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday when he collided with a Honda CR-V.
The pickup rolled over, and a passenger riding in the bed of the truck was killed when he was thrown from the truck, police said.
According to police, the driver admitted drinking alcohol that day and using marijuana in the past. Police said he claimed to have no recollection of the collision.

A 17-year-old male was shot in the legs tonight in West Seattle, but isn’t telling police anything about who did it.
Two suspects approached the young man around 8:19 p.m. while he was sitting at a bus stop on the 9200 block of Delridge Way Southwest, according to the Seattle Police Department. At least one of the suspects then shot at him and then both fled on foot. A witness told the West Seattle Blog that at least six shots were fired.
The man was shot in both legs and taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Seattle Fire Department.
There have been no arrests, and at least one suspect remains at large as detectives investigate what led to the shooting, according to the Seattle police.
“The victim has been less than cooperative with investigating officers and thus there are no suspect descriptions available at this time,” according to police spokesman Jeff Kappel.

UPDATE 9:34 P.M.| A search involving helicopters and increased police presence in West Seattle has been scaled back for the night, according to King County Sheriff spokeswoman Cindi West. He is still on the loose.
Police are searching in Seattle’s Delridge neighborhood for Emanuel Kozma, 24, a “known convicted felon,” whom they believe is armed and dangerous. He was just released from a King County jail today around 4:30 p.m.
At around 7:30 p.m., King County gang detectives tried to stop a vehicle in Seattle’s White Center near Southwest 108th Street and 15th Avenue Southwest. Instead of stopping, the vehicle took off in the direction of Seattle and detectives gave chase, according to sheriff’s department spokeswoman Cindi West.
As they were pursuing the vehicle, West said in a news release, the people in the car threw a handgun out the window. Detectives lost sight of the car near 17th Avenue Southwest and Southwest Henderson Street, West wrote. Then they learned there had been a rollover accident at 17th and Trenton.
When detectives got to 17th and Southwest Trenton Street they found the car they were looking for with a 22-year-old woman inside. She was taken to Highline Hospital with minor injuries, West wrote.
Korzma left the accident scene on foot and was last seen wearing a blue shirt with cutoff sleeves and black pants. West said he is about 5-foot-7.
If anybody sees him, they should call 911, she said.
