Seattle firefighters put out a small electrical fire on a 40-foot fishing trawler tied up to a dock at Fishermen’s Terminal just before 11 p.m. tonight, according to department spokesman Kyle Moore.
A caller told dispatchers smoke was coming from the boat’s engine, Moore said, but it wasn’t clear whether the boat had been running or why it caught fire. A neighboring boat owner contained the fire with a garden hose until firefighters arrived, a fire department tweet said. Responding crews fully doused the flames in about 15 minutes, Moore said.
No injuries have been reported, and the boat reportedly had minor damage.

An ammonia gas leak on a 178-foot vessel near Fisherman’s Terminal led to an evacuation of everyone within 500 feet of it Thursday, according to the Seattle Fire Department.
A repair crew for a fish-processing boat punctured a 1-1/4-inch hole in gas line at around 4:30 p.m. at 1500 W. Thurman St., sending the ammonia spilling into a confined space on the ship called the blasting freezer, according to SFD spokesman Kyle Moore.
One crew member was physically affected by the spill but declined treatment, he said.
Because the puncture in the gas line was so hard to reach, the SFD hazardous materials team is waiting for the remaining ammonia gas to leak out of its tank instead of immediately sealing it, Moore said. SFD’s Technical Rescue Team will try to cut off the leak when ammonia air levels decrease, he said.

UPDATE, 5:28 p.m. | A man threatening to kill himself inside of a Fisherman’s Terminal workshop where he lit a rag fire surrendered himself to Seattle Police Department officers after injuring one wrist, said Kyle Moore, spokesman for the Seattle Fire Department.
Firefighters were able to put out the rag fire quickly, but Seattle Police Department officers spent almost an hour carefully persuading the man to not harm himself, Moore said. After experiencing a seizure from the smoke fumes and losing some consciousness, the man eventually waved police officers in, where no weapon was found.
He was sent to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition, Moore said.
EARLIER POST, 3:57 p.m. | A man threatening to kill himself is inside a commercial building that is on fire near the Fisherman’s Terminal on Commodore Way. Seattle firefighters are trying to take down the flames while being cautious of the distraught man.
“We are now actively trying to fight the fire. We’re trying to take precautions because we have a suicidal male inside,” said Kyle Moore, spokesman for the Seattle Fire Department.
He said the man may also be armed.
