After taking Thanksgiving Day off, the familiar rains returned to the Puget Sound area today, testing the resolve of those headed downtown to the Holiday Parade.

But stay tuned. Better weather is on the way, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers are expected to taper off this evening, and the chance of showers decreases into the weekend.

In the Seattle area, the chance of showers is 40 percent Saturday, 30 percent on Sunday and Monday is forecast to be dry and partly sunny.

A dry stretch could be welcome following a drenching week that included a record 2.13 inches of rain Monday at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Johnny Burg, Weather Service meteorologist, said that through Thursday, Sea-Tac had 5.45 inches of rain in November, compared to a normal 4.8 inches for the period.
