WENATCHEE — An alert security guard at Wenatchee Valley College helped stop an attempted kidnapping of an 11-year-old girl over the weekend.
The Wenatchee World reports that 43-year-old John A. Graff of Leavenworth was arrested Saturday on suspicion of first-degree attempted kidnapping.
The security guard, Kevin Edwards, detained him until Wenatchee police arrived.
The girl was walking through the campus on her way home from a store when a man approached her and started asking her questions. Edwards had noticed both the girl and the man walking in opposite directions and ran toward them when the girl started screaming and trying to get away.
Edwards called police and Graff was arrested. The girl’s father came to the scene. Police later interviewed the girl.

EVERETT — A 14-year-old boy has been charged with indecent exposure and unlawful imprisonment in an assault on a 13-year-old girl on a Marysville Middle School bus.
Court papers filed Thursday say the boy began tickling the girl March 1, pushed her down on the floor, pulled down his pants and sat on her head.
Four other boys accused of holding the girl down are in a juvenile court diversion program.
The assault ended when another girl pulled the boy off the victim.
The Daily Herald reports it happened during a chaotic bus ride. It was out of the driver’s sight, but recorded on video.
Four boys were expelled and three suspended. After appeals, two remain expelled and two suspended.

A suspect has been arrested in the sexual assault of a 12-year-old in Shoreline on Sunday, according to the King County sheriff’s office. See the full story.
The sheriff’s office announced that a suspect was in custody via twitter this morning. The tweet said more details were to come.
King County sheriff’s detectives were investigating whether the Shoreline apartment where the girl was raped early Sunday may have been targeted.
Detectives were called to the apartment complex in the 20000 block of Whitman Avenue North at 3:30 a.m. by a woman who reported a strange man was in her house, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Cindi West. The man ran out the door when the mother came home, West said.
The woman’s 12-year-old daughter told investigators the man had raped her.
The girl and her two younger siblings were home alone when the man slipped into the apartment.
Investigators aren’t sure whether the man targeted the apartment and the girl, or whether the attack was random. But he entered the home while no adult was present.
West said it’s unclear how the attacker got inside the home.
