UPDATE 9:07 p.m. |
The Associated Press
Authorities say a 3-year-old Fircrest boy has been located after his 18-month-old brother was found severely injured inside an apartment.
Pierce County sheriff’s Detective Ed Troyer says the children were in the care of their mother’s 28-year-old boyfriend while she was away from home for several days for medical treatment.
Troyer said the boyfriend dropped the 3-year-old off Thursday at a family member’s house. The spokesman says that boy had cuts and bruises.
The boyfriend, Stephan Perebeynos, called 911 Thursday afternoon and medics found the younger boy suffering from major head trauma. He’s reported in critical condition at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in nearby Tacoma.
The boyfriend has been arrested for investigation of assaulting a child.
When officers learned of two other children, they took a 7-year-old girl into protective custody but couldn’t initially find the 3-year-old. Troyer said the boyfriend’s relatives brought the child to the hospital Thursday night after hearing of the missing child alert.
UPDATE 7:15 p.m. | Authorities report the boy has been found, according to a KING5 TV report.
EARLIER POST | A 3-year-old boy is missing, and authorities in Fircrest, Pierce County, believe he may be hurt or in danger.
This afternoon, the Fircrest Fire Department, answered a call about an unresponsive 18-month-old. The child was taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in critical condition with major head trauma and bruising on the body, according to a news release fro the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities looking into the case learned that there were two other children living in the home, a 7-year-old and a 3-year-old. Their mother had been away from the residence for the past four days for medical treatment and had left her children in the care of her boyfriend, Stephan B. Perebeynos, the release says. It was Perebeynos who initially called 911 about the 18-month-old’s condition.
The 7-year-old was located and taken into protective custody, but “investigator5s have not been able to determine the whereabouts of 3-year-old Tyrone Hampton Jr., and fear he may be the victim of foul play,” the release says.
Perebeynos is in custody, but authorities are asking the public to report any suspicious sightings of him or his vehicle — a white 4-door Pontiac Grand Am — in the past 24 hours to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. The news release describes him as 6-foot-1, 225 pounds with brown eyes and light brown hair. He wears a goatee and a mustache.
