A convicted sex offender accused of fondling a woman at Myrtle Edwards Park on Sunday morning has been charged with indecent liberties, a felony.
Coty Durand Kelly, 25, was arrested after several people dialed 911 to report that a man was chasing people around the waterfront park. After talking with witnesses, police found Kelly in a parking garage near the Seattle Art Museum Sculpture Park, according to police.
The victim, 39, told police that Kelly ran up from behind her, tackled her and sexually assaulted her when she was out for a walk, according to the charges, which were filed Tuesday. The woman told police that she first noticed Kelly because he was urinating in the park.
When he headed in her direction, she ”stepped up her pace,” according to the charges. The woman told police that she needed to get away from the man, so she ran toward a more populated part of the park. The victim looked over her shoulder and saw Kelly following her, charges allege.
“Suddenly, however, without warning, [the woman] was grabbed from behind and pushed to her knees,” charges said.
Kelly assaulted her, according to the charges. After about 30 seconds, the man released his hold on her and walked away. Two witnesses yelled at Kelly and dialed 911. These witnesses identified the suspect for police, charging documents said.More
