NOOKSACK, Whatcom County (AP) — A group of fleeing robbery suspects was ahead of pursuing officers when they decided to paint their getaway car a new color, but they forgot to change the license plate on the vehicle.
The Bellingham Herald reports the alleged driver, 22-year-old Westley C. French, outran the law for five more hours this past weekend.
French and his alleged accomplices used those fleeting moments of freedom to give his green Nissan 240 SX a new coat of black spray paint. But they neglected to swap out the car’s South Dakota plates when border agents found the car and the suspects outside Nooksack Valley High School.
Everett police spokesman Aaron Snell says the suspects were wanted in the beating of two men during a car robbery.

The roof of Seattle’s iconic Space Needle was repainted on Tuesday with the message “top this” to promote a new contest in honor of the 50th anniversary of the 1962 World’s Fair.
The people who run this Seattle attraction want the public’s help in designing the Space Needle’s next paint job.
KOMO-TV reports officials with the Space Needle will be accepting design and color submissions for a paint job that will be on the roof from Oct. 21 through April 21. The deadline for the contest is Sept. 20. Submissions will be narrowed down by a panel of judges. Then the public will pick the winner.
