A woman with a small child was injured by flying debris when an unknown shooting suspect opened fire near the Rainier Valley light-rail station tonight.
The victim was standing in a glass shelter at 5:21 p.m. in the 7100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South when she suffered non-life-threatening injuries from a projectile, said Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore. The black SUV and its occupants remain at large.

Weather: To quote The Beatles: “Sun, sun, sun, here we come.” We’re in for sunny skies today and and tomorrow and while it might rain Sunday, we absolutely do not believe it. It rained yesterday morning and no sun was forecast, but by the afternoon, it was sunny and beautiful. It’s expected to be 68 degrees today in Seattle and warmer in some outlying areas. Why is our chart so wrong? The National Weather Service forecast.
Traffic: The map and cams.
Police have retracted their original report that the man shot dead in the Central Area yesterday was caught in an exchange of gunfire as he drove down the street with his family. They now say there was no crossfire. We’ll be doing more reporting throughout the day to provide details on what happened.
Darn, those gas prices keep going up… We’re a bit tired of hearing this, but we’re getting less and less bang for our buck at the pump. The latest numbers from AAA of Washington: State average – $4.24 a gallon, up 14 cent from a month ago and 27 cents higher than the same time last year. Prices around the state: Bellingham $4.39, Bremerton $4.24, Seattle-Bellevue-Everett $4.29, Tacoma $4.27, Olympia $4.28, Vancouver $4.25, Yakima $4.18, Tri-Cities $4.13, and Spokane $3.97.
The guy has a second home: A 47-year-old man was busted for reckless driving in Spokane last night after he crashed his SUV during a police chase, injuring two people. He was busted and sent to jail. During his 18 years as a miscreant, he’s been put in the hoosegow 147 times.
For the second time in recent days, a crowd at the scene of a crime has been hostile to emergency responders. It happened last night when medics showed up to a stabbing in Cal Anderson Park in Seattle. Last week, police were met with a less than welcoming group of men at the scene of the fatal shooting of a man outside a Jack in the Box in Rainier Valley.
