Massive mudslide: Rangers at Stehekin report a powerful storm triggered a massive mud and rock slide in the remote community at the north end of Lake Chelan Thursday night. Many vehicles in the long term parking area and at the mouth of Imus Creek were buried. Businesses affected were Discovery Bikes and Stehekin Reservations and Fly Fishing Shop. Most of the bicycles were damaged or washed into Lake Chelan and the log cabin office for fly fishing and reservations was surrounded by mud and rocks. We will have updates today.
Now it begins: Road to the Super Bowl or another long trip to disappointment? The Seattle Seahawks are playing their first regular season NFL game today against the Carolina Panthers. Visions of Super Bowl have been dancing around the heads of the Hawks’ fans in the off-season and in the pre-season when the team went 4-0. A win today would get it started right. A loss? That would make the road rougher. Today’s Seattle Times has a special Seahawks Season Kickoff section focusing on quarterback Russell Wilson. Can he handle the heightened expectations?
Not into football? You might prefer to visit the Washington State Fair, which continues today in Puyallup, its former namesake. The fair continues through Sept. 22, but why wait? The weather is forecast as sunny and 76 degrees. Perfect fair weather.

WENATCHEE – A 25-year-old Pennsylvania man, who was overdue by a week on the Pacific Crest Trail, walked into Stehekin today.
He was tired and hungry, said John Wisemore, Chelan County undersheriff. He apparently did not bring enough food for the leg of the trip between Stevens Pass and Stehekin.
Ian Farmento of Honeytown, Penn, which is near Scranton, was hiking the trail from Mexico and had been expected in Stehekin Oct. 22. He was last seen on Oct. 19 near North Indian Pass, which is about eight miles south of Glacier Peak. Wisemore said he walked into Stehekin about 2 p.m. today.
