Two teens were shot, one fatally, early Wednesday in the Richmond Beach area of Shoreline.

A 17-year-old girl, a student at Shorecrest High School, has died and an 18-year-old boy is reportedly in critical condition at a Seattle hospital. He is a student at Shorewood High School.

The shooting was reported shortly after midnight by one of the victims.

According to KING-TV, the victims apparently were driving themselves to the Shoreline Police Department, but stopped their vehicle at 185th Street and Aurora Avenue North, where police met them.

The teens were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Deputy Travis DeFries says investigators don’t know if the teens were targeted or if it was a random shooting. He says shootings are rare in the Richmond Beach neighborhood.

There are no suspects or an apparent motive in the shooting.

According to an email sent this morning to parents in the Shoreline School District, the slain girl was a student at Shorecrest High School. The wounded boy is from Shorewood High School, according to the email from Superintendent Sue Walker; Pat Hegarty, principal of Shorecrest High School; and Bill Dunbar, principal of Shorewood High School.

“This is a huge shock to our entire community,” the email reads. “We are offering counseling support as some of our students may want to seek additional help today, and in the days to come.”
